Higher education leader passionate about equality, leadership and social innovation. I am the Director of the Social Impact Lab at the University of Southampton, a social innovation lab and leadership academy. I received my PhD from the University of Warwick in 2006.

I have authored The Future of Multicultural Britain (2008) and articles on multiculturalism, social entrepreneurship, social innovation, and work futures. I have written both for a diverse range of academic journals and national newspapers and magazines, including such as The Guardian, Times of India, The Hindustan Times, The Conversation, Pioneer’s Post, India Today, Outlook India and Tehelka. My speaking career has included a book tour of India, contributions on BBC Radio 4 and 5 Live, appearances on Indian (NDTV) and Vietnamese television (VTV).  My research interests are social entrepreneurship and twenty-first century leadership, global work futures,  higher education and race equality. You can access some of my publications here or here.

I  direct the Social Impact Lab at the University of Southampton. Our mission is simple: to cultivate world-class talent for social impact. We support Founders (those who start new social purpose ventures) Fixers (those who work to grow social impact in existing organisations) and Finders (those who discover new tools, technologies, models and data for the sector at large).

I am a serial higher education innovator, having launched the UK’s first all-campus Social Enterprise module and designed its first postgraduate ‘pathway’ in social entrepreneurship and undergraduate minor in Social Innovation. I also run the award-winning Spark India social entrepreneurship and leadership bootcamp, which takes place annually in Mumbai. I am co-director of the UK India Social Entrepreneurship Education Network which ran the first UK India Social Innovation Challenge on the theme of clean water and sanitation.

In recognition of my work I was awarded the Hind Rattan (Jewel of India) award (2014) and a Times Higher Education Award nomination. I am also a Fellow of the Royal Social of Arts and the Higher Education Academy for my contributions to the field of social entrepreneurship.
